Thoughts

Peace Is Not a Romantic Word

This is something my pastor once said during a sermon, and the words stayed with me for a long time.

For a long while, I thought of the word "peace" as something that sounded nice but felt distant from real life - almost like an empty phrase. That was because "peace" was usually talked about in grand and heavy contexts, such as peace between North and South Korea, or even World Peace. At least, that’s how it felt to me.

Peace can also be spoken of within a family, but in the home where I was born and raised, there were moments when I couldn’t fully feel that peace. And now, I am living with my husband in the family that I have chosen.

There are far more days filled with laughter in our life together. Still, at times, we find ourselves in small and big arguments, unable to fully understand each other’s differences. Even so, through these meaningful conflicts, we continue to learn more about one another, making sincere sacrifices to protect the peace we build together.

We both know that this is something that can never be achieved by the effort of just one person.

For now, it is only the two of us. But one day, when our home is filled with the precious lives yet to come, I quietly hope that our children will remember this place as a peaceful home.
